“Inside Out” performed by Marisa Nahas
On January 22, 2012 over 100 tweens and teens gathered for a notable cause. They were all participants in the music video production for the brand new song “Inside Out” performed by Marisa Nahas. Mad Habit Media collaborated with The Choose Friendship Company to launch their anti-bully, pro-friendship campaign debuting at the NYC Toy Fair this month. The song’s powerful message is to be true to yourself, stand up for others and choose friendship. Along with the compelling song lyrics, the music video follows a “pay it forward” storyline emphasizing friendship which includes a high-energy, flash-mob style dance number. The video incorporates a PSA with the message that “together kids can knock out bullying one friend at a time!”. Proceeds from the song’s sales will be donated to non-profit organizations that support this cause. Click here to help the cause.

Next week the Choose Friendship Company is going to New York City for the 2012 Toy Fair! The 109th annual American International Toy Fair® is the largest toy and youth product marketplace in the Western Hemisphere, bringing together more than 1,100 exhibiting manufacturers, distributors, importers and sales agents from around the globe to showcase their toy and entertainment products.

Let There Be Friendship
It’s the beginning of a new year with new adventures! The 2012 New York City’s Time Square ball drop’s theme was “Let There Be Friendship.” How cool is that?? Flashmob with ‘Choose Friendship’ message features rising singing sensation Marisa Nahas and dance troupe to surprise holiday shoppers.
A very special group of girls provided an important message about friendship to shoppers looking for last minute holiday gifts at the Village of Rochester Hills on Sunday afternoon. Decked out in Santa hats, the flash mob conducted a dancing, sing-along led by rising local singing sensation, Marisa Nahas, who stopped shoppers in their tracks with her rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
The flash mob’s message – remind people about the importance of choosing friendship over bullying. The impromptu performance ended with presents and the girls shouting out “Choose Friendship.” The presents, which included My Friendship Bracelet Makers, were handed out to lucky shoppers who were asked to give them to a special little girl or boy on their list, or to pay it forward and donate to a less fortunate child by dropping off at the Baldwin Center box located at the Yoga Studio between the Gap and Children’s Place.
The flash mob was organized by Crorey Creations, a Clinton Township company that produces award winning toys, including My Friendship Bracelet Maker and My Ribbon Barrette Maker. Crorey Creations has started a series of Choose Friendship campaigns that support kids facing different challenges. In October, the company launched “Pink & White Kids Join the Fight” in which they collected pink and white friendship bracelets to give to kids affected by cancer. For the holidays, the company has donated products to many local charities, including the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the Baldwin Center.
Marisa Nahas is an up-and-coming star in the music industry. An eighth grader at L’Anse Creuse Middle School North, Marisa sang and co-wrote the song “Waking Fate” from the award-winning local short film, Amendment. In addition, she won first place in the pop division during the American Guild of Music Great Lakes Regional Contest.

Christmas trees have been a part of Christmas for generations, bringing our families together and uniting us in celebration. The fir tree has a long association with Christianity, it began in Germany almost 1,000 years ago when St. Boniface, who converted the German people to Christianity, was said to have come across a group of pagans worshipping an oak tree. In anger, St Boniface is said to have cut down the oak tree and to his amazement a young fir tree sprung up from the roots of the oak tree. St Boniface took this as a sign of the Christian faith. But it was not until the 16th century that fir trees were brought indoors at Christmas time.
Long before St. Boniface, King Tut, who never saw a Christmas tree, would have understood the tradition which traces back long before the first Christmas.
The Egyptians were part of a long line of cultures that treasured and worshipped evergreens. When the winter solstice arrive, they brought green date palm leaves into their homes to symbolize life’s triumph over death.
The Romans celebrated the winter solstice with a fest called Saturnalia in honor of Saturnus, the god of agriculture. They decorated their houses with greens and lights and exchanged gifts. They gave coins for prosperity, pastries for happiness, and lamps to light one’s journey through life.
Centuries ago in Great Britain, woods priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The Druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.
